IMMIX honours its storied heritage with a bespoke art program that celebrates local artists

QuadReal Property Group (“QuadReal”), a global real estate investment, operating and development company is welcoming tenants to its newly completed purpose-built residential project in Toronto, IMMIX. Located in the vibrant neighbourhood of Yonge and College, IMMIX is built on the historic Fire Hall Number 3 site that includes the restored Clock Tower, an important feature in the community for more than 150 years.

QuadReal’s commitment to preserving the site’s rich architectural history pays homage to the LGBTQ2S+ community and this important recognition is further showcased through the building’s bespoke art program. The program features both public art, located outside the building, and commissioned pieces displayed in the lobby and amenity spaces. Curated by Toronto’s Tatar Art Projects, the artists chosen for this project are all trailblazers and reflect the same resilience and immense cultural enrichment exemplified by the neighbourhood itself.

IMMIX offers 450 rental homes, together with complementary retail and office spaces that integrate seamlessly with the vibrancy of Yonge Street. The project provides residents with an exceptional living experience at the intersection of art, history, and community. Its varied amenity spaces include a fitness centre, yoga studio, cycling studio, pet-washing station, co-working and meeting room area, as well as an outdoor pool and recreation space.

QuadReal is committed to building vibrant and sustainable communities now and for generations to come. In the Greater Toronto Area (“GTA”), its development projects include Cloverdale Mall, Assembly Park and Bayview Village. These projects encompass a mix of residential, retail, and community spaces, and are all designed to enhance the character and quality of life of their surrounding neighbourhoods. QuadReal’s existing Canadian residential portfolio consists of over 36,000 multifamily and land lease homes, with over 5,000 rental homes in the GTA alone. Through its development program, QuadReal and its partners are currently constructing over 1,800 purpose built-rental units and 3,600 condominium units in the GTA.

“This project holds a special significance for us. Not only are we creating an exceptional space right in the heart of the city, but we’re also preserving a piece of its rich history for generations to come,” said Toby Wu, Executive Vice President of Development at QuadReal Property Group.“IMMIX represents our commitment to developing quality spaces in Toronto, enriching the urban landscape and enhancing the lives of our residents.”

“We are excited to extend a warm welcome to residents and guests at QuadReal’s newest residential project in Toronto,” said Anthony Lanni, Executive Vice President, Residential at QuadReal Property Group“IMMIX embodies a fusion of modern design and storied heritage, a tribute we are deeply honoured to uphold. This project underscores our commitment to long-term investments in housing in the Toronto region, and our dedication to operational excellence, ensuring residents enjoy an unparalleled living experience they can truly call home.”

“It’s been an honour to curate a project that encapsulates the rich history of such an integral Toronto neighbourhood,” said Judith Tatar, Founder, Tatar Art Projects. “Embracing diversity and recognizing the value of talent beyond societal labels is crucial. As a member of the LGBTQ2S+ community myself, with Tatar my goal is to bring a unique perspective and deep appreciation for the incredible talent and rich tapestry within the community.”

About the Artists

IMMIX includes 28 installations from artists representing a range of views and perspectives, including:

  • Ed Pien’s Enchantment, that intertwines a large-scale 3M reflective film with shoji papercut, creating a mesmerizing tapestry of an array of figures and fluid shapes. As a Taiwanese artist living in Canada, Pien’s work is a celebration of diversity.
  • Julie Jenkinson’s Time Zone, that seamlessly melds antique pocket watches into textiles, paying homage to Toronto’s iconic Clock Tower. Jenkinson’s assemblage art is a poetic and performative tribute, eloquently expressing its message through metaphor.
  • Jade Rude’s Colour Wheel delves into the disorienting realm between visual perception and physical presence. Through her art, she explores the boundaries of instability, inviting viewers to contemplate the complexities of perception and reality.
